The Church

About Our Church

The Burlington Church of Christ is a loving congregation of baptized believers in Christ seeking to live out God’s calling for man. We seek to be true to the Bible which we believe to be the inspired word of God. We have no other spiritual authority or inspiration outside of the Bible. When you attend our Church you will be welcomed with love and care. We endeavor to bring souls into a loving and eternal relationship with God through consistent study of the Bible and fellowship with his children. We have worship services on Sunday mornings where the Word is preached. We also have Bible classes on Sundays mornings and Wednesday evenings where we engage in in-depth studies of the Bible. We are confident that you will benefit spiritually from attending these gatherings. However, our mission extends beyond teaching. We also seek to actively demonstrate our love through benevolent action to meet physical needs. We are involved with the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter which we regularly support because we understand the importance of meeting physical needs in addition to spiritual needs just as Christ did. We have Bible authorized leadership in the form of elders and deacons who are tasked with overseeing the direction and operation of the congregation. Our leaders are committed to welcoming you and providing the spiritual guidance and support that you may need.

Belief

Our Beliefs & Teachings

Our core beliefs can be summarized as follows…  First and foremost, we believe that the Bible is the authentic inspired word of God. We regard it as our singular spiritual authority. We strive never to add to or take from what it says. (1 Tim 3:16)  We believe that the Word of God, as presented in the Bible, is final and cannot and should not be amended by man to accommodate the ever-changing opinions, beliefs, and behaviors of mankind. (Rev 22:18,19)  Christ was the establisher of our Church and is its head. (Matt 16:18, Eph 5:23)  Man can ultimately live in peace with God in eternity through obedience and commitment to Him in this life. (John: 6:54,68)  As taught in the Bible, we believe that there is a path to salvation that was established by the grace that resulted from Christ’s death on the Cross. This path consists of the following steps… o Hearing the gospel. (Rom 10:17) o Believing what the gospel says. (John 3:16) o Repenting from a life of sin. (Luke 13:3) o Confessing that Jesus is the son of God. (Matt 10: 32,33) o Being baptized for the remission of sins. (Acts 2:38) o Remaining faithful until death or the 2 nd coming of Christ. (Matt 25:31-34)  Our worship services consist of the following: o Singing - Worship of God in spirit and in truth (Eph 5:19) o Prayer – Communication with God (1 Tim 2:1) o Communion - Memorializing the death of Christ through partaking of the bread and the cup. (1 Cor 11:23-26) o Giving – Financial offerings to support the work of the Church (1 Cor 16:1,2) o Reading of scripture – Instruction and inspiration direct from the Bible. (2 Tim 3:16) o Preaching – Hearing the Word of God through spoken word. (1 Cor 1:18) o Fellowship – Interpersonal interaction for spiritual edification. (Acts 2:42)  We believe that we have been commanded to teach Christ to all who are willing to listen so that all men can be saved. (Mark 16:15,16, Rom 1:16)  We believe in ministering to the needy in our community through benevolent works.(James 2:16, Matt 25:34-36)
